The Mijas Golf Resort is situated just a 30 minute drive from San Juan airport. Take the Fuengirola Coin turn off from the motorway and follow the road called Camino Viejo de Coin. The course is about 3 and a half kilometers from the highway.
Mijas Golf Resort has made a great effort to answer the needs of its numerous players who desires to play golf in Malaga on the Costa del Sol, and to that end, the course includes all conveniences. There is a practice area, buggy rental, manual and electric trolleys, putting green, bar-cafeteria, restaurant, shop, changing rooms, bathing facilities and parking facilities. In addition, running throughout the grounds, there are places to buy water and other drinks plus toilets. There is furthermore the option to take part in golf technique classes.
Mijas Golf Resort offers two Golf Courses:
Los Olivos created in 1983/84 & Los Lagos founded in 1976. Both courses are designed by Robert Trent Senior. The main feature which distinguishes Los Olivos from Los Lagos is the abundance of trees - hence the name - and its smaller size, as well as fewer water hazards. The greens are smaller, undulating and well defended. Even though both are created by the same designer, there is no doubt there are interesting differences between the two golf courses: if Los Lagos are based on hazards of water and sand, Los Olivos is strategic narrow tree lined fairways and elevated greens. Generally the course caters for the precision golfer rather than the big hitter.
Los Lagos is a ground course with wide fairways and a few forest trees obstacles, but is defended by many bunkers and 9 water areas, from which the course gets its name and which easily trap the ball. It is a course with soft movement and large greens. It could be said that the American designer intended to present a course especially for beginners, but at the same time, it can present a challenge for the best players. One of "Los Lagos" most characteristic and challenging holes is the par 5 thirteenth. Seen from elevated tees it appears deceptively easy but at the approach to the green there is water left and right, also watch out for the slope as even a good shot is in danger of sending the ball into the water. The 5th a 571 meter monster, is also "interesting". The course is almost free of rough and is almost flat except for a slight incline up the 18th hole.
There is an excellent choice of dining possibilities and bars within the resort, and the nearby town of Fuengirola also offers a range of restaurants, along with a cinema and a variety of shops.
The delightful white village of Mijas, legendary for its donkey-drawn taxis, sits high atop the mountains offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and several towns of the Costa del Sol below. Within just a ten minute drive you will find some of the best blue flag golden beaches imaginable, offering you the ideal setting for peace and relaxation.
